Stocks to Watch Tuesday, Oct. 20: Amazon, 3M, Cleveland-Cliffs, Disc Medicine, SCWorx

By Tech & Money Press · Pre-market watchlist for Tuesday, October 20, 2026

Market Setup

Stocks bounced on Monday. SPY closed at $766.48 (+0.4%) and QQQ at $718.36 (+1.2%), led by mega-cap tech, with Amazon doing most of the heavy lifting. Earnings season picks up this week, with Netflix reporting Tuesday after the close.

Our five names for Tuesday all have fresh catalysts: an analyst top-pick call, a big after-hours contract, an earnings beat, a Phase 3 win and a low-float runner. Here are the levels we are watching.

1. Amazon (AMZN) – Morgan Stanley top pick

Close: $262.45 (+5.0%) · Day range: $255.22–$263.72 · Volume: 56.2M (about 1.5x its 10-day average) · After hours: ~$263.20

Morgan Stanley named Amazon its top pick and raised its price target to $350 from $335. The firm expects AWS growth to speed up to 47% in 2027, citing AWS’s planned GPU deployments. AMZN closed near the high of the day. Q3 earnings are due October 29 after the close.

Our Take: A clean gap-and-go on a top-tier analyst call. If AMZN holds above about $259 early, the day high at $263.72 is the first test. A push through it opens the late-August high near $267.56. A fill of the gap below $259 toward $255.22 would weaken the momentum case. The run-up into the Oct. 29 print could keep buyers interested.

2. 3M (MMM) – $6B Amazon data center deal

Close: $162.01 (−1.7%) · Day range: $161.95–$164.85 · Volume: 3.7M · After hours: ~$170.86 (+5.5%), high $171.55

After the bell, 3M signed an expanded commercial agreement to supply Amazon with optical connectivity and other data center products. An Amazon subsidiary received a warrant for up to about 3.16M 3M shares at a $164.89 strike, with most of it vesting as Amazon’s cumulative purchases reach $6 billion.

Our Take: The deal gives an old-line industrial a real AI data center angle, and the market rewarded it right away. We want to see pre-market hold above the Oct. 16 high at $167.95. That keeps the gap strong, with $171.55 (after-hours high) as the next test. A fade back toward the $164.89 warrant strike would show the pop being sold. The warrant adds some dilution, but only if Amazon actually spends the money.

3. Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) – Q3 beat, back to profit

Close: $14.10 (+16.3%) · Day range: $12.94–$14.58 · Volume: 88.4M (about 2.7x its 10-day average) · After hours: ~$14.12

Cliffs reported Q3 adjusted EBITDA of $612M and adjusted EPS of $0.28, swinging to a profit from a loss in Q2. It guided Q4 adjusted EBITDA to about $715M.

Our Take: CLF closed near its highs after a big earnings move, and that tends to draw day-two follow-through. A break of $14.58 puts $15.00 in play. Steel peers were mixed after the close (Steel Dynamics slid after hours), so watch the sector tone. A loss of the Oct. 9 high at $13.22 would say the move is fading, with the day low at $12.94 below that.

4. Disc Medicine (IRON) – Phase 3 win for bitopertin

Close: $78.93 (+38.9%) · Day range: $69.98–$80.22 · Volume: 8.5M (versus a typical ~600K) · After hours: ~$77.90

Disc’s APOLLO Phase 3 trial of bitopertin in erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a rare light-sensitivity disorder, met both co-primary endpoints and all secondary endpoints. After an earlier FDA rejection, the company plans to resubmit its application by year-end 2026.

Our Take: This is a fundamental re-rate, not just a squeeze. But biotech gappers often pull back on day two, especially if the company decides to raise cash, so watch for an offering announcement before the open. Above $80.22 to $80.80 (day and after-hours highs), there is room toward the August range near $83.60. Below the $75.11 after-hours low, a deeper retest toward $70 becomes likely.

5. SCWorx (WORX) – Low-float runner (high risk)

Close: $2.68 (+94.2%) · Day range: $1.35–$3.77 · Volume: 126M on roughly 440K shares outstanding · After hours: ~$3.32, high $4.28

WORX resumed trading on Nasdaq and turned over its tiny share count more than 200 times on Monday. Filings show warrant inducement agreements, so dilution risk is real.

Our Take: This is a pure momentum and volatility play. Expect wide spreads and possible halts. It is only for experienced traders using small size and hard stops. Holding above $3.77 in pre-market would put the $4.28 after-hours high in play. Losing the $2.52 after-hours low, and then $2.00, likely ends the move.
